Well, first off I'm actually a Mrs. Mouse (AKA Beth). The "Mouse" moniker is actually a nickname that my husband had when we first met in the U.S. Air Force (both active duty) back in 1983. We only had known each other for 10 weeks before we got married. We've lived in California, England and New Mexico thanks to the Air Force. We have two grown kids, a daughter and and son. I'm a nurse by profession although since September 2011 I have been on full veterans disability through the Veterans Administration 15 years after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, type 2. I've worked in acute care, some emergency room, women's health, some pediatrics, family practice, veterans healthcare, military healthcare and as a nursing instructor at both the associate and bachelor's degree level.
I took up running (or actually run/walking) in July 2011. In grade school I was one of those kids who would do anything to avoid running and opting for marching band instead of PE. In 2009 I tried to start running on my own using the Couch to 5K program but ended up with multiple injuries for pushing too hard too soon. I ended up with a stress fracture in my right foot which ended my running after about 6 weeks. I again decided to try to start running in July 2011 but decided that I needed coaching as well as an incentive. I decided to run with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training. I registered to run the Tinkerbell Half Marathon on January 29, 2012, and then started training on my own in mid-July. Since I am not a born runner I literally began from zero doing intervals of running 50-100 yards and walking 50-100 yards. Thankfully I'm doing much better now!
I'm a dog lover, rescuer, transporter and owner. My pack of six includes two rescued Chihuahuas, a tiny Maltese, a small Pekeapoo (Pekingese/Poodle mix), a Shih Tzu (my daughter's dog who is "temporarily" living with us until she can find a place in Albuquerque that allows pets) and a Texas Heeler (Australian Shepard/Australian Cattle Dog mix; my son's dog who is also "temporarily" living with us since he's moved to Arizona).
I'm an internet geek, spend a lot of time on Facebook, like to travel and occasionally like to cook. I've been an off and on blogger since the late 1990's blogging when I feel like I have anything to say, whether it makes sense or not. So, stick around and browse, I hope you enjoy and let me know what you think! Thanks for visiting!
